CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire -02/14/12)- January has greeted Americans with some of the highest January gas prices ever, and some analysts are predicting that prices could get close to $5 a gallon in some areas during the warm-weather driving season. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the United States in January was $3.39, according to motorist group AAA. That's nearly 30 cents higher than a year ago. TransUnion recognizes the heavy burden gasoline bills can be for many Americans and is here to help a few lucky individuals.
Today, TransUnion launched its Fuel Your Finances Facebook Photo Contest to help accelerate one lucky individual toward their goal of living a more debt free life -- by awarding them with free gas for a year. Three runners-up will win $250 worth of free gasoline.
"TransUnion understands that many consumers spend significant money on gasoline each month, which can lead to them taking on additional debt and derailing them from their financial goals," says John Danaher, president of TransUnion's direct-to-consumer subsidiary. "We are excited to be able to help a few lucky individuals avoid taking on the additional debt that comes from fueling their vehicle and steer them down the road to living more debt-free."
To enter, individuals need to visit www.Facebook.com/TransUnion between February 13 and February 24 and upload a picture of themselves at the gas pump holding a sign saying "I Love TransUnion" or "I Heart TransUnion" and include a short 50 word explanation why the prize money is important to them. Perhaps they spend more time in the car than anywhere else or are constantly shuttling children to and from school and soccer practice? Submissions will be accepted until 12:00 midnight Eastern Time on February 24, 2012.
TransUnion will select 10 quarter-finalists each week for four weeks to be voted on by fans on Facebook. The semi-finalists from each of the four weeks will then compete and the one semi-finalist with the most eligible votes on their photo/essay at the end of the contest will receive a year of free gasoline from TransUnion (up to $5,000). The three runners-up will each receive a $250 gift card to the gas station of their choice. The four finalists will also each receive a year subscription to TransUnion products.
