Trilegiant (TLG*) (TLG GREAT FUN) Membership Club Scam and Fraudulent Marketing Lawsuit Announced by National Consumer Protection Law Firm Gilman Law LLP

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire -03/09/12)- The leading national consumer protection law firm of Gilman Law LLP announces a class action lawsuit in the United States District Court (Case No.: 12-00332) against Trilegiant and others for allegedly deceiving and scamming consumers with discount membership clubs. These so-called clubs, operated by Trilegiant (TLG*), Affinion, and their controlling owner Apollo, commonly appear under one or more of the following names:

  • LiveWell
  • Shoppers Advantage
  • Travelers Advantage
  • Great Fun!
  • Great Options
  • CompleteHome
  • Everyday Values
  • Everyday Privileges Gold
  • HealthSaver
  • Just For Me
  • Privacy Guard
  • IdentitySecure
  • CardCops
  • PC Safety/Plus
  • Hot-Line
  • Auto Vantage
  • Buyers Advantage

According to the complaint, Trilegiant is accused of colluding with numerous online merchants in an effort to sell memberships in the above-named discount clubs. Consumers are allegedly tricked or induced into "joining" these clubs when they made purchases at websites operated by the following vendors:

  • United Online
  • Memory Lane
  • Classmates International
  • FTD Group
  • Days Inns Worldwide
  • Wyndham Worldwide
  • PeopleFindersPro
  • Beckett Media
  • Rakuten USA
  • IAC/InterActiveCorp

According to the complaint, Trilegiant allegedly gains access to merchants' checkout systems by paying for customers' billing information, including credit card and debit card numbers. Trilegiant also presented consumers with allegedly fake offers on websites operated by these retailers promising incentives such as upfront gifts and cash back rewards but instead charging consumers monthly fees. After being enrolled in these membership/club programs, consumers are allegedly billed each month until the consumer opts out.

In 2006, Trilegiant settled similar charges with attorneys general in 16 states involving the marketing of some of the same membership discount clubs named above via direct mail campaigns. Read more about the prior 2006 Attorney General Settlement.

Consumers who have been charged a "membership fee" for one of the above-named discount clubs as a result of the marketing practices outlined here are encouraged to call our office at (239) 221-8301 for a free consultation, or visit the Trilegiant (TLG) Membership Club Scam Claims Center.
