U.S. judge allows GM South Africa apartheid lawsuit, Bloomberg says

U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin in Manhattan ruled yesterday that GM (GM), Ford (F) and IBM (IBM) may be liable for human rights abuses committed overseas under a law that allows non-citizens claiming violations of international laws to sue in the U.S, according to Bloomberg, citing comments from Scheindlin. The judge rejected the companies’ argument that earlier court presidings interpreting the 1789 Alien Tort Statute protect multinationals from such lawsuits.
