LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Careers fairs, arranged by and held at universities, are important events for businesses to attend if they are looking to recruit the best young minds of a particular discipline into their organisation, says City trading and broking house, Schneider Trading Associates (STA).
Fairs are usually held between October and May, during term time, and are predominantly aimed at final year students. They are extremely valuable mechanisms to aid the recruitment process but they also provide businesses with the opportunity to gain greater brand visibility, consumer interest for products or services and new social media followers or fans.
Students can speak directly to professionals about the careers they are interested in entering, whilst businesses can gain further information about interested individuals’ capabilities and their expectations surrounding roles as well as their views on the particular industry.
STA’s Professional Trader Programme (PTP) trainers regularly attend careers fairs; they find they are able to spend time conversing with those undergraduates who are attracted to trading and therefore identify people who they believe may have the right attitude and aptitude to make it as a successful trader. A large number of enquiries fielded at careers fairs lead to applications from students who want to become a trader through Schneider’s sponsored graduate programme. For successful candidates, after the initial four-week course, the PTP leads to a three-year training and mentorship scheme and a self-employed trader position with STA in the heart of the City.
Head of training, Matt Silvester, commented: “Careers fairs are extremely well attended at most universities and we find it gives us the opportunity to headhunt’ those students who show enthusiasm and potential, even from an informal conversation. There are a number of businesses out there who would benefit from attending these types of university fairs as part of their recruitment drive as it’s a good way of finding the cream of the crop in a particular subject. For example, STA’s trainers often speak to economics, finance and maths students; this approach compliments our other recruitment activities because our Professional Training Programme is open to people of all ages, backgrounds and to those who have no previous financial or markets experience.”
