UPS raises general rate for heavy freight shipments by 5.9 percent in US, Canada, Mexico

Associated Press

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- UPS Inc. said Friday that it will raise the general rate for heavy freight shipments by 5.9 percent on June 10.

The increase will cover minimum-charge, less-than-truckload and truckload shipments that aren't handled under a contract. It applies in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

A UPS spokeswoman said the increase did not apply to UPS' parcel-delivery business.

Less-than-truckload carriers ABF Freight System and the freight division of YRC Worldwide Inc. both announced May 20 that they would raise rates on non-contract shipments by an average of 5.9 percent.
