RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- United Parcel Service Inc. said Friday its freight business will raise rates on non-contractual shipments in North America by 5.9 percent.
The increase takes effect July 16. It will apply to minimum charges, less than truckload rates, and accessory charges.
The freight unit moves heavier shipments like refrigerators. Early this year, UPS raised rates for ground and air shipments by 4.9 percent.
Shares of UPS rose $1.65, or 2.1 percent, to $78.76 on Friday. The stock was unchanged in aftermarket trading.
