US futures edge lower ahead of latest housing data

US stock futures move lower ahead of January housing data; economists expect activity faded

NEW YORK (AP) -- U.S. stock futures are moving slightly lower with the U.S. expected to report that homebuilding slowed during the first month of the year.

Dow Jones industrial futures are down a point to 14,006. The broader S&P futures have lost a point as well and are trading at 1,527. Nasdaq futures are down 3.25 points to 2,777.50.

Even though builders likely eased their pace in January, the Department of Commerce is expected to report Wednesday that new housing starts remain at a 4 ½-year high.

The Labor Department releases its wholesale prices report before the opening bell.
