US says tax-related ID theft complaints on rise

Federal regulators say stolen identity complaints involving tax and wage fraud jumped in 2011

    Fantasy Finance

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. government says the number of identity theft complaints involving tax and wage fraud is soaring even as law enforcement tries to crack down.

Federal Trade Commission officials tell The Associated Press that 24 percent of the nearly 279,000 identity theft complaints it received last year came from people concerned their Social Security numbers had been stolen and used to fraudulently file for tax refunds or apply for jobs.

The agency says that's 8 percent more than the year before.

David Torok of the commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection says the trend has continued into 2012. The number of complaints filed with the FTC on any issue has risen from 35,000 a week to 50,000. He says most of the additional complaints are for tax and wage identity theft.

Identity theft is an organized crime, not one of opportunity. When the staff of your personnel office steal lists of employees names and Social Security Numbers to sell on the black market, it isn't some "illegal." It is your coworker and friend. Studies show most ID theft is by coworkers and relatives.

What the IRS needs to crack down on are these low-income bottom feeders who sell their kids social security numbers to their friends who then claim them on their taxes as Earned Income Credit deductions and then kickback half the money to the other person. This type of fraud is massive and costing the real taxpayers millions of dollars. What is more appalling is that the IRS, government doesn't even care, because these are their voters.

Don't forget back in the day white men filed dogs, cats, fish and anything else to get the earned income credit. So know race is better than the other.

Maybe the companies never offered the chance to work, to a US Citizen. Because of lower pay they get Mexicans to work. Or maybe if the Mexicans would become US Citizens, they could Unionize and all people could work on fair wage agreements. There are so many different out comes, just so people can try to save money and survive. Maybe more occupy movements need to happen? VOTE!

Americans refuse to do the back breaking and low level jobs that the new immigrants take. Even with the recession farms could not get enough workers, because Americans would not take the jobs.

Illegals are not the offenders. Hackers and coworkers are the thieves.

Illegals are the number offenders. Yet, they do NOTHING about it.
