NEW YORK (AP) -- U.S. stocks are wavering at midday, pulled between disparate signs about the economy and company earnings.

The moves are small, with two of the major indexes rising slightly and one inching down. The Dow Jones industrial average is up 37 points to 13,045. The Standard & Poor's 500 is up three to 1,382. The Nasdaq composite is down four to 2,936.

Investors are waiting to see if the Federal Reserve will decide to pump more money into the economy. The Fed is expected to release a statement in the afternoon.

The opening minutes of trading were marked by unusually large swings in some stocks, with no clear explanation. The New York Stock Exchange announced it was reviewing trades on 140 symbols.
