Virginia Port Authority names John F. Reinhart as executive director

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Port Authority has a new executive director.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Thursday that the authority's board selected John F. Reinhart to the position.

Reinhart most recently served as president of Maersk Line Limited and served as the company's CEO from 2000 to 2004. Maersk Line Limited is the largest employer of American mariners and is headquartered in Norfolk.

McDonnell says Reinhart's experience in the maritime industry, and his longstanding involvement in the Hampton Roads community, make him ideally suited to lead the Virginia Port Authority.

The Virginia Port Authority was established in 1952 to promote the shipment of goods through the state's ports.

The Port of Virginia is the third-largest port on the East Coast.
