Vermont gets grant to help unemployed residents start new businesses

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) -- Unemployed Vermont residents who want to start their own businesses could get some help thanks to a federal grant.

The U.S. Department of Labor on Wednesday awarded the state just under $50,000 to create and promote a Self-Employment Assistance Program for those who are eligible to receive emergency unemployment compensation.

Officials say program participants will get financial support while they access resources, information and training they need to get a business off the ground.
