Viridian Energy’s Amazon Preservation Project Grows to New Heights

Fourth Trip to Brazilian Amazon Continues Company’s Pledge to Replant 5,000 Trees

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Viridian Energy (“Viridian”), a leading provider of affordable, green energy, today announced it will return to the Mamori region of the Brazilian Amazon to begin its fourth reforestation excursion as part of its Amazon Preservation Project, Thursday, May 2. Thirty Viridian Associates, corporate leaders and guests will spend six days replanting indigenous trees, tracking nutrient levels in the soil, and collecting key data being used to create a reforestation blueprint in partnership with the local university in Manaus. The blueprint will provide a model for reforestation throughout the Amazon.

“This project is about making a measurable difference in the quality of the global environment both through the reforestation effort itself and through the blueprint that will inform the success of other, similar efforts,” said Michael Fallquist, founder, Viridian. “Environmental responsibility is at the core of Viridian’s beliefs as well as a vital piece that drives our business and so the commitment demonstrated here is something that goes beyond a corporate responsibility initiative. It speaks to who we are as a company and we’re hopeful that the education and awareness brought to bear through our ongoing commitment to this region will make a lasting difference.”

The Amazon Preservation Project, launched in March 2011 is an ongoing initiative of Viridian’s long-term pledge to fulfill its mission of replanting 5,000 trees, creating a reforestation blueprint that details how to best reforest not only Mamori region, but the entire Amazon. Additionally the project sets out to educate local communities about responsible farming and the adverse effects of deforestation.

The Viridian Amazon Preservation Project reinforces Viridian’s mission of local change, global impact. More than 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced by the Amazon rainforest. When Viridian decided to undertake the task of helping to repair, replant and protect the rainforest it created partnerships with local organizations in order to make the most significant positive impact possible.

Viridian plans to return to the Mamori region to continue its plan of education and reforestation. For more information about Viridian’s Amazon Preservation Project, and for information on how to get involved, visit ViridianSustainabilityInitiative.com.
