HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire -03/05/12)- A string of acquisitions in the talent management industry by SAP and Oracle have blurred the road ahead for buyers of HR and training software. At least one software firm has clearly defined a course forward and remains independent: Meridian.
"Our mission is to provide employers a portfolio of human-capital technology platforms and subject-matter expertise that empower them to optimize their business processes and to drive breakthrough results," said Jason Marceau, vice president of Operations for Meridian. "Until now, we focused exclusively on developing learning management systems. We'll continue developing the industry's best LMS, but as part of a larger portfolio.
"Our competitors are doing what's best for them, not their customers," added Marceau. "Human-capital software makers are trying to squeeze customers into a software-as-a-service model; vendors are forcing customers to bend their business processes to fit one-size-fits-all training or HR software."
In contrast, Marceau says Meridian will let customers shape the software maker's human-capital technology to fit the way an employer works. For example, if a customer wants a SaaS solution, then Meridian offers that, just like everyone else in the industry. But if SaaS, or renting software, does not suit a customer's needs, then Meridian also offers its perpetual license model, which the company deploys behind an employer's firewall or hosts at Meridian's world-class data center. Meridian's vision is to provide innovative technologies (e.g., mobile learning, social networking, learning content management, learning management systems, etc.) that solve complex challenges tied to developing an employer's staff, customers or even business partners.
"Organizations today are searching for new, innovative approaches to sharpening the execution of their learning strategies with a goal to achieve the greatest level of return on their investments. Meridian has and continues to be at the forefront of helping organizations find what they are looking for," said Michael Rochelle, principal and chief strategy officer for the Brandon Hall Group. "Meridian has demonstrated a laser-like focus on helping organizations optimize the development of their people with cutting-edge technology and best-in-class client support."
Since last fall, Meridian's leadership team has examined not only the challenges facing the talent management industry but also its offerings and approach to the market.
As part of scrutinizing its operations, Meridian has promoted John Leh to vice president of sales and marketing. Leh will lead Meridian's sales team and oversee promoting the firm's brand. "At the end of 2011, we were voted the number one enterprise LMS in the world by readers of Elearning! magazine," said Leh. "We want a wider audience to know that fact along with many other remarkable things about the way we do business. We want people to know we'll do whatever it takes to get the job done as promised for our clients."
Leh had been Meridian's national sales manager since 2007. He has more than 15 years of experience in the e-learning industry. Before joining Meridian, Leh held sales roles with SumTotal Systems and Wilson Learning. He holds a master's degree in instructional technology from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
"John has kept an exceptional focus on selling our products, serving customers and honoring commitments; he has achieved success by respecting and fairly treating his coworkers, customers and business partners," said Marceau. "John always delivers value."
