Wal-Mart Announces Price Roll-Back on College Tuition

Yesterday Wal-Mart Stores announced a new program that would allow its employees to receive some college credit for on-the-job training as well as discounted tuition.

After checking out more than 80 potential schools, Wal-Mart chose American Public University for the new program. American Public is on online school based in West Virginia and offers more than 100 degree programs. The discounted price per credit paid by employees will be $212.50 for undergraduate credit hours and $255 for graduate credits: the company didn’t say how large of a reduction this represented.

Wal-Mart is also planning to provide $50 million in scholarships to employees over the next three years.

Workers are eligible for college credit for in-store training in areas including retail inventory management and ethics, which can be applied toward various business and retail courses.
