Walk for Kids 2014 Exceeds Fundraising Goal, Raises More Than $2.3 Million To Support Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California

PR Newswire

LOS ANGELES, June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 23,000 individuals, families, businesses and community groups laced up across five Southern California locations for the 2014 Walk for Kids, benefitting Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California (RMHCSC).  Spirited teams turned out to raise an all-time high of $2.35 million for six Ronald McDonald Houses, two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times®.

The organization raised over $2.35 million during the non-competitive 5k pledge events which took place on April 6th at Honda Center in Anaheim, Exposition Park in Los Angeles, Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Shoreline Park in Long Beach and on May 31st at the California Living Museum in Bakersfield. Funds will be used to provide overnight stays for families at Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, and visits to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times.

"Walk for Kids has become a truly special event for the charity and an opportunity for individuals, businesses and community groups to come together to support thousands of Southland families," said Vince Bryson, CEO, RMHCSC. "Everyone involved in the event helps to ensure we're able to continue providing vital support for families of critically ill children and we couldn't do what we do without their help."

Ronald McDonald Houses, located in Bakersfield, Loma Linda, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Orange and Pasadena, offer low-cost, and often free, temporary housing for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals and medical centers. Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times provides children with cancer an opportunity to process their diagnosis and restore their self-esteem while learning independence and self-reliance in the therapeutic environment of the great outdoors. Ronald McDonald Family Rooms serve as an oasis inside the hospital for parents with children in the pediatric intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care unit.
