In the following excerpt from the Wireless Communications & Telecom Report, the President and CEO of Ceragon Networks (CRNT) discusses company strategy and the outlook for this vital industry:

TWST: You mentioned that we are moving to a new technology. What is that going to look like?

Mr. Palti: From a user perspective, it is not going to look very different than what they are used to. The mobile platform will get smarter, and there will be small changes along the way. As users, we consume more and more data all the time. The operators have to make sure that we have access to that data at very high capacities in rapid and ubiquitous ways across different environments, so the architectures of the network from the access perspective are constantly progressing and evolving. We evolved from 3G to 3.5G to 4G to 4.5G, what people call LTE Advanced.

Now we move to heterogeneous networks, which really means a lot more base stations, or what people call small cells. This provides a lot more access points where our phones and iPads and everything will be connected. Each one of those small cells need now to carry the traffic and use some kind of hauling, mainly backhauling, back to the core of the network, and that's where we come in.

We came out with an architecture that we call Holistic HetNet Hauling, or 3H. It is different pieces of systems and equipment that we are using to carry hodgepodge of different size cells and technologies of base stations - small cells and microcells and picocells and Wi-Fi offload - to a single point, and from there to the core network.

TWST: Your company is very focused on innovation, and it is a main part of what you do. How do you stay so innovative?

Mr. Palti: I think the interesting part about us is that we live and breathe backhauling. We go to sleep and we wake up thinking about the most efficient ways to implement microwave or wireless backhauling. We have a...
