In the following excerpt from the Oil & Gas Review 2014 Report, the President, CEO and Director of Pason Systems Inc. (PSI.TO) discusses company strategy and the outlook for this vital industry:

TWST: What is happening within the macro environment and/or within your customers' businesses that you think could be catalysts for growth for Pason Systems?

Mr. Kessler: The catalyst that we have seen in North America and especially in the U.S. over the last couple of years has obviously been the shift from conventional oil and gas drilling to shale, to so-called unconventional formations, and that's led to a much higher complexity in the type of wells being drilled, and as I mentioned, a high complexity really helps our business – it means you need better data, more data, a more sophisticated instrumentation, more sophisticated applications around that. So that has been a real catalyst for growth for us in North America over the last couple of years.

Now, looking the next few years out, it looks like this trend to unconventional, this revolution, is going to happen internationally as well. There are indications that we're starting to see that in Argentina and other Latin American markets. There are early indications that similar trends are going to happen in China as well as in the Middle East and elsewhere. So that will probably be the main catalyst of international growth, the shale revolution, the unconventional revolution spreading beyond North America.

TWST: Who do you consider to be your competitors and what are some of the advantages you believe you have over them?

Mr. Kessler: There is really one main competitor and that is a subsidiary of NOV, National Oilwell Varco, in Houston, Texas. NOV is one of the main equipment manufacturers for the oilfield around the world. Now, the kind of products and services that Pason provides is peripheral for them, but they have one subsidiary that is engaged in this business as well, and they are our major competitor around the world and really the only big one that exists.

TWST: What are the top three strategic goals on your agenda as we head into 2014?
