TWST: Previously, ARC Wireless focused on antennas and antenna technology. Is that still an important part of the business?
Mr. Deinard: It is. You have to start by asking yourself, "What is an antenna?" An antenna is what allows a device to become wirelessly connected. It is one important part of a suite of things that allow for that kind of connectivity. It's not the only thing, but it is a really critical part. Antennas are a core competency of ours, and they have been for a long, long time. And what's interesting about antennas is as they proliferate, as more and more and more of them exist in the world, you get the potential for more and more interference and undesirable outcomes if you don't have properly designed antennas and properly designed networks.
So imagine a medical device inside a person wirelessly transmitting information to another device that receives that data. Maybe it is dialysis feedback or information on insulin levels or an insulin pump or something else. That is a device that needs to work no matter what - whether a person is walking through a metal detector or standing under a utility pole or whatever else the person may be doing. They can't afford to have that function interrupted by interference from other devices or anything else.
Those interference questions become extremely important and are only going to become even more important as there is a proliferation of devices. If you have properly designed antennas and networks, the chances for interference are reduced dramatically.
TWST: You also are involved in providing broadband solutions. How does that offering play into your wireless strategy?
