You Want To Check Facebook Almost As Much As You Want To Sleep And Have Sex [STUDY]

A survey conducted by the University of Chicago published today concluded that the impulse to check Facebook ranks just behind the impulse to sleep and have sex, Forbes reports.

The survey questioned 250 people, who were given BlackBerry devices equipped with the Facebook app.

The people were periodically pinged to find out whether they were compelled to check Facebook at any given moment.

Ends up that even the smokers and drinkers were more compelled to use Facebook than to indulge their respective vices.

Forbes adds:

It’s a quick, easy fix unlikely to give you liver disease or lung cancer, one of the reasons that the [Facebook] addiction may be so much more pervasive than traditionally harmful pastimes.

“With cigarettes and alcohol there are more costs – long-term as well as monetary – and the opportunity may not always be the right one. So, even though giving in to media desires is certainly less consequential, the frequent use may still ‘steal’ a lot of people’s time,” the study's lead researcher Wilhelm Hoffmann told The Guardian.
