WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Washington Gas has received the highest ranking among utilities in the Eastern region according to the 2014 J.D. Power Gas Utility Business Customer Satisfaction Study. Washington Gas’ overall customer satisfaction index score increased 50 points this year to 705, 31 points above the regional average. Ratings are based on a 1,000-point scale. Washington Gas is a subsidiary of WGL, which offers a diverse set of energy sources including natural gas, wind, and solar as well as a range of energy solutions – generation, storage, transportation, distribution, supply, and efficiency – which serve customers in more than 25 states.

"This recognition and improvement over our recent past rankings illustrates the commitment and dedication of our employees to provide all our customers with exceptional service, day in and day out,” said Terry D. McCallister, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WGL and Washington Gas. “We are proud to receive this award and will continue to uphold our pledge to deliver natural gas safely and reliably.”

The study, now in its ninth year, measures business customer satisfaction with gas utility companies based upon six factors: billing and payment; corporate citizenship; price; communications; customer service and field service. Utilities are ranked in four separate geographical regions. Results are based on more than 9,500 online interviews conducted among business customers from May through July 2013 and again from October through December 2013.
