NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire -01/16/12)- NRF Annual Convention & Expo, Booth #1768 -- Wavelink Corporation (www.wavelink.com) today announced Wavelink Velocity, a Mobile Enterprise Application Platform (MEAP) tool that provides fast and reliable delivery of web-based applications to rugged mobile devices.
Wavelink Velocity delivers web-based applications across multiple mobile platforms with greater functionality and performance than has previously been available. Unlike traditional browsers such as Windows Pocket IE, which were not built for wireless connections, Velocity is built with the needs of today's wireless networks in mind. As a result, it renders pages much faster than traditional mobile browsers, allowing enterprises to extend productivity from the existing mobile work force.
"Legacy industrial browsers were built for PCs, not for mobile computers, which created serious challenges with connectivity issues, the user interface and lack of scanner support," said Mikkel Storm, senior product manager at Wavelink. Velocity is based on an efficient, open-source architecture, which stabilizes and standardizes the user experience across multiple platforms including Windows, Windows Mobile, Windows CE, Android, iOS and Palm WebOS. Its feature set, which has been optimized for rugged devices that commonly run in a variety of wireless environments, includes:
- WYSIWYG tools so administrators can optimize HTML host screens without accessing the host application
- Connection persistence to provide end users a steady connection to the host even when roaming in and out of RF coverage or when the device reboots or goes to sleep
- Transparent roaming so users can move between WiFi and 3G/4G coverage without interruption
- Advanced scanner support so the application can manipulate, validate and parse barcode scan data
- Support for multiple development environments including HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, AJAX and Flash for custom applications
- Support for multiple simultaneous sessions
