This Week’s Big ETF Stories

It was a holiday-shortened trading, but one that did not lack for fireworks. No, the Fourth of July pun was not intended. Ongoing declines for mainland Chinese stocks, Puerto Rico’s debt default and Greece’s increasingly precarious financial situation got the week started with a bang.

Greek banks and equity markets were closed this week and the country is heading to Sunday referendum where a “no” vote means Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras could secure financing to help his country avert disaster.

On Thursday, the Labor Department said the U.S. economy added 223,000 jobs last month with an unemployment rate of 5.3%, but the labor participation rate dropped, meaning the Federal Reserve might be forced to put off raising interest rates.
