What to watch next week: Russia, spending, gas prices & housing

There are only a few more days left in 2014, but there is still a bunch of economy questions we need answered. Yahoo Finance Editor-in-Chief Aaron Task sits down with the Yahoo Finance team for a preview of the weeks ahead.

Russia

Akiko Fujita is watching to see if there will be a ripple effect from the Ruble’s fall and the slowing Russian economy. “We heard about GM (GM) suspending sales to car dealers. Earlier this week it was Apple (AAPL). IKEA’s now saying because of all this panic buying, they’re going to be suspending as well.” Will more companies hit the pause button in Russia?

Income report

The Personal Income and Outlays report comes out on Tuesday. Yahoo Finance’s Rick Newman says, “It’s important because rising incomes have been the missing piece in the so-called recovery. We saw a little bit of evidence recently that they’re just starting to tick up. This will give us some idea if it was transitory or real income gains.” Will more cash in consumer’s pockets boost December spending?

Gas Prices

Prices at the pump are down across the country. Yahoo Finance’s Jeff Macke is looking at who’s gaining from the low prices: “Companies like McDonald's (MCD) and Dunkin Donuts (DNKN) that are sitting right there after people fill their tank. They should be benefitting and they’re not. And that’s weird.” So where’s all that extra cash going?
