WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) - The White House said aRepublican proposal that would lift the debt ceiling but linkthat with budget negotiations would not be acceptable because itcould again put the country on the verge of default in sixweeks, spokesman Jay Carney told reporters on Friday.

"A debt ceiling increase at only six weeks tied to budgetnegotiations would put us right back where we are today in justsix weeks, on the verge of Thanksgiving and the obviouslyimportant shopping season leading up to the holidays," Carneysaid.

"We should not link the threat of default to budgetnegotiations," Carney said.
