Wireless, landline telephone outages reported in Southeastern states

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Phone carriers say some customers in the Southeast are experiencing outages with wireless and wired service.

AT&T spokesman Jim Greer said in an email Tuesday evening that engineers have found a hardware-related problem and are working to restore service. Greer said the outages affect cellular and landline service.

Verizon spokesman Trevor Thomas said the outages are in Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama and Tennessee and that engineers are working to resolve the problems.

The Lexington Herald-Leader said Sprint and T-Mobile customers also reported problems. The carriers posted Twitter messages saying they were working to fix the problems.

The number of customers affected wasn't available, and it's not known when service might be restored.
