MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state of Wisconsin stands to receive $9.6 million in the national settlement with pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline Plc. over federal and state complaints related to marketing and pricing of its drugs.
State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says Monday the money will go to Wisconsin's Medicaid program.
GlaxoSmithKline agreed to pay $2 billion in damages and civil penalties along with a $1 billion criminal fine to settle charges it marketed certain drugs for uses not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Van Hollen says the settlement sends an important message to drug companies to market their products honestly.
