Yum apologizes for food scare

Investor's Business Daily

The parent company of KFC apologized to Chinese customers after the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration reviewed its chicken over safety concerns. The watchdog group later found that the levels of antibiotics and steroids in Yum's (YUM) chicken supply were safe, but also found a high level of an antiviral drug in one of the samples tested. "We regret shortcomings in our self-checking process, a lack of internal communication," said Yum China CEO Su Jingshi. Yum has more than 5,100 restaurants in China. Shares rose 2.2% to 66.25.
