Here are highlights from Monday’s Analyst Blog:

QCOM Processor to Power Nexus 5

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., the business arm of Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM-Free Report), will supply its Snapdragon 800 processors to Google’s Inc.’s (GOOG-Free Report) Nexus 5 smartphones powered with Android 4.4 Kitkat operating platform.

Nexus 5 will be integrated with Qualcomm’s latest QFE1100 technology (the world's first envelope tracking (:ET) technology for 3G/4G LTE devices) which uses Qualcomm’s RF360 front-end solution. Qualcomm RF360 facilitates multiple bands of frequencies in one device. Moreover, RF360 combined with QFE1100 will further boost device performance by reducing power consumption, thereby increasing battery life.

Google’s new handset will also be powered with Qualcomm’s Image Signal Processor, which supports the new Android Camera HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) functions.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad core chipset supports 3G/4G LTE modem with ultra HD graphics, enhanced battery life and clock speeds of up to 2.2 GHz per core.

Most high-end smartphones like Sony Corp.'s (SNE-Free Report) Sony Xperia Z and Blackberry Ltd’s (BBRY-Free Report) BlackBerry Z10 use Qualcomm chipsets. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad core processors will gain traction with increased deployment of 4GLTE technology across emerging nations like India and China.

The world’s largest telecom operator, China Mobile (CHL-Free Report), targets to deploy nearly 200,000 TD-LTE base stations by the end of 2013. China Mobile has already selected Snapdragon and Gobi-based LTE-TD smartphones, as it runs well on such home grown networks. This will create a huge growth opportunity for the company in the upcoming quarters.

In the third quarter, Qualcomm shipped approximately 172 million CDMA-based MSM chipsets, up 22% year over year. The company expects to maintain this trend in the next quarter.

Currently, Qualcomm carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
