EVERETT, Wash. (AP) -- Sports clothing and equipment retailer Zumiez Inc. on Wednesday posted a key monthly revenue figure for January that was well ahead of analyst expectations.
The retailer said sales at stores open at least a year rose 10.8 percent for the four-week period ending Jan. 28. That was more than double the 4.3 percent rise predicted by analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters.
The figure is considered an important measure of a retailer's financial performance because it strips out the impact of recently opened or closed stores.
Shares dipped a penny to $29.37 in after-hours trading. They had closed up 82 cents, or 2.9 percent, to $29.38 in regular trading, before Zumiez posted its revenue numbers.
The company's total revenue in January climbed 19 percent $31.8 million, from $26.7 million last year.
Zumiez, based in Everett, Wash., sells sports clothing, footwear, equipment and accessories geared toward skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, motocross and BMX. It has 434 stores in the United States and 10 stores in Canada.
