The U.S. government's efforts to recruit talented hackers could suffer from the recent revelations about its vast domestic surveillance programs, as many private researchers express disillusionment with the National Security Agency. NSA intelligence-gathering programs have prevented 54 terrorist attacks, 13 of them in the U.S., says Director Gen. Keith Alexander. U.S. intelligence analysts can use a secret National Security Agency program to scour wide-spanning databases tracking online traffic, the Guardian newspaper reported, citing documents from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
