NYC's Water Tunnel No. 3 Unveiled

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the completion of the Manhattan portion of the city's third water tunnel, a project decades in the making, to provide water to the entire borough of Manhattan for the first time.

The new third water tunnel, a project first proposed in 1954 and commenced in 1970, which will feed water to the entire borough of Manhattan for the first time, will allow the city to take the aging Tunnel No.1, which began continuous operation in 1917, offline to be inspected and repaired for the first time in nearly 100 years.
