Egyptian officials say a liberal economist has emerged as a strong candidate for prime minister after hours of negotiations between secular and liberal factions and ultraconservative Islamist. Former President George W. Bush, who normally stays out of current political issues, urged Congress to pass legislation to overhaul the system.
