The quest by NSA leaker Edward Snowden for a safe haven has taken a turn toward Latin America, with offers for asylum coming from the leftist presidents of Nicaragua and Venezuela. China and Switzerland signed a free trade agreement in Beijing - a move that came amid escalating tensions between Asia's economic giant and the European Union. The pact followed China's signing in April of its first free trade accord with a European economy, non-EU member Iceland. Security forces boosted positions near a protest camp by supporters of ousted leader Mohammed Morsi as authorities plotted their next moves after violence claimed at least 36 lives across the country and deepened the battle lines in the divided nation.
