A Chinese sculptor has removed a disputed inscription from the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial statue that he designed on the National Mall and said that he is working on a new finish for the side of the artwork. The disputed inscription was a paraphrase from King's "Drum Major" speech. It read, "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness." An influential ultraconservative Egyptian cleric has warned that using violence to break up sit-in protests by supporters of the ousted president will lead to more bloodshed. Oscar-winning Paul Haggis has spoken and written of how difficult it can be to break from the Church of Scientology. Now, in an open letter published by The Hollywood Reporter, the screenwriter/director recalls how kind Leah Remini was to him when he left, and offers his support as she exits the church.
