Study finds dire work conditions on Thai trawlers

In this photo taken Nov. 15, 2005 and released by the International Labor Organization (ILO), migrant workers from Myanmar and Thais sort out fish at Mahachai port in Samut Sakhon, Thailand. Researchers from the International Labor Organization and the Asian Research Center on Migration at Chulalongkorn University questioned nearly 600 workers in four provinces along Thailand's coasts for a study, released Monday, Sept. 1, 2013, on the state of the country's fishing industry. They found conditions on trawlers so bad that Thai citizens are rarely willing to work on one. More than 90 percent of the workers interviewed came from Myanmar or Cambodia, where poverty is widespread and jobs scarce. (AP Photo/ILO, Thierry Falise) NO SALES, CREDIT MANDATORY
