War & Conflict Breaking News: Suicide Bomber Kills Self, Other Bomber and 8 Passersby in Afghanistan

Abdul Zai, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province, said three suicide bombers wearing explosive vests were driving toward the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad when they were stopped by the security services. Zai said one bomber detonated a device inside the vehicle. Two bombers died and the third was injured. Eight passersby were killed and 25 others were seriously injured. Security officials said three militants wearing explosives-rigged vests killed at least nine civilians, most of them children, in a botched attack on the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, near the border with Pakistan. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assault in the city of , and the Afghan Taliban denied in a text message that it had carried out the attack. The United States issued a worldwide travel alert warning Americans that al Qaeda may be planning attacks in August, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa.
