Sunday's Oscars telecast that honored atomic bomb drama "Oppenheimer" reached a four-year high in viewership with an average audience of roughly 19.5 million on ABC, the Walt Disney-owned network said on Monday. "Oppenheimer," the blockbuster biopic about the race to build the first atomic bomb, won seven awards on Sunday, including best picture. On social media, the Oscars ranked as the No. 1 program on Sunday night, generating 28.5 million interactions, also roughly 4% above last year, ABC said.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Barbenheimer” brought a bump not a boom to Oscars ratings. An estimated 19.5 million people watched Sunday night's 96th Academy Awards ceremony on ABC. The Academy experimented with scheduling this year's show an hour earlier, and for the first time in years had many nominations for huge hit movies that viewers had actually seen — “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”
Barron’s in January tapped Comcast, whose Universal had a hand in Oppenheimer, as one of a few loser stocks that could become winners.
