| Cardtronics, Inc. owns and operates automated teller machines (ATMs) in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. As of December 31, 2008, it operated 32,950 ATMs comprising 28,350 ATMs in the United States; approximately 2,500 ATMs located throughout the United Kingdom; and approximately 2,100 ATMs located in Mexico. The company also works with various financial institutions to provide their customers with convenient cash access and deposit capabilities through ATM branding, surcharge-free programs, and image deposit. In addition, it provides ATM management and equipment-related services, including transaction processing, cash management, maintenance, and monitoring to nationally-known retail merchants, as well as to smaller retailers and operators of facilities, such as shopping malls and airports. Cardtronics also had approximately 10,100 of company-owned ATMs under contract to feature bank brands. The company was formerly known as Cardtronics Group, Inc. and changed its name to Cardtronics, Inc. in January 2004. Cardtronics was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. |
