| Chemtura Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture and sale of specialty chemical solutions and consumer products in the United States. Its products are used as additives, ingredients, and intermediates. The company operates in four segments: Polymer Additives, Performance Specialties, Consumer Products, and Crop Protection. The Polymer Additives segment offers antioxidants, brominated performance products, flame retardants, fumigants, polymer additives and inhibitors, PVC additives, and surfactants. The Performance Specialties segment includes petroleum additives comprising alkylated diphenylamines antioxidants used in motor oils, overbased and neutral calcium sulfonates used in motor oils and marine lubricants, and barium and sodium sulfonates, which provide corrosion protection and emulsification in metalworking fluids and antioxidants; and castable urethane polymers. The Consumer Products segment provides recreational water purification products for the maintenance of pools and spas, such as sanitizers, algicides, biocides, oxidizers, pH balancers, mineral balancers, and other specialty chemicals and accessories, as well as offers non-abrasive bathroom cleaners, glass and surface cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, drain openers, and rust and calcium removers. The Crop Protection segment produces seed treatments, fungicides, miticides, insecticides, growth regulants, and herbicides. The companys products are sold to agriculture, automotive, construction, electronics, general industrial, packaging, industrial lubricants, pool and spa chemical, and transportation markets through local dealers, large retailers, and mass merchants. Chemtura Corporation was founded in 1900 and is headquartered in Middlebury, Connecticut. On March 18, 2009, Chemtura Corp along with its affiliates filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. |
