| The investment seeks as high a level of current income as is consistent with the preservation of capital. The fund normally invests all of assets in municipal bonds that provide income exempt from federal, New York State and New York City personal income taxes. It invests at least 80% of its assets in municipal bonds rated investment grade, or the unrated equivalent as determined by Dreyfus. The fund may invest up to 20% of its assets in municipal bonds, including bonds rated below investment grade (?high yield? or ?junk? bonds) or the unrated equivalent as determined by Dreyfus. It is nondiversified. |
