PICO Holdings, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, engages in water resource and water storage, real estate, and agribusiness activities in the United States. The companys Water Resources and Water Storage Operations segment acquires and develops water resources for end-users, such as water utilities, municipalities, developers, or industrial users; and develops and operates water storage facilities for the purchase and recharge of water for resale in the southwestern United States. Its Real Estate Operations segment engages in land development and home building operations primarily in California, Washington, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. This segment designs, constructs, and sells single-family homes on various lots; and provides construction management services. As of December 31, 2014, this segment owned or controlled approximately 6,368 lots; and property portfolio consisted of 83 communities in 38 cities in West and Southeast markets. The companys Agribusiness operations segment produces and sells canola oil and meal. It is also involved in the acquisition and financing of businesses. PICO Holdings, Inc. was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in La Jolla, California.
