| PMC-Sierra, Inc. engages in the design, development, marketing, and support of semiconductor solutions for the enterprise networking, wide area network infrastructure, and access network markets. Its products include controllers based on Fibre Channel, Serial Attached SCSI, and Serial ATA, which enable technologies for building network-attached storage system architectures; framers and mappers, which convert the data into a format for transmission in the network before the data is sent to the next destination; line interface units that transmit and receive signals over a physical medium, such as wire, cable, or fiber; and packet and cell processors that examine the contents of cells or packets, and perform various management and reporting functions. The company also offers microprocessor-based system-on-chips, which performs the high-speed computations that help identify and control the flow of signals and data in various network equipment used in the communications, enterprise, and consumer markets; radio frequency transceivers that transmit and receive broadband signals over the air; and serializers/deserializers, which convert networking traffic between slower speed parallel streams and higher speed serial streams. PMC-Sierra sells its products to end customers directly, as well as through distributors and independent manufacturersÂ’ representatives in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. It has a collaboration agreement with Entropic Communications Inc. to develop a solution for delivering greater than 100Mb/s broadband connectivity in MSO fiber deployments.
