| Ashford Hospitality Trust, Inc., a real estate investment trust (REIT), invests in the hospitality industry primarily in the United States. The company invests in various segments and at various levels of the capital structure, including direct hotel investments, first mortgages, mezzanine loans, construction loans, and sale-leaseback transactions. Ashford Hospitality Trust has elected to be taxed as REIT for federal income tax purposes and would not be subject to income tax to the extent that it distributes at least 90% of its REIT taxable income to its stockholders.
