This segment serves customers in southeast Asia and Europe. The Back-end segment manufactures and sells equipment and materials that are used in the assembly and packaging, encompassing the processes in which silicon wafers are separated into individual circuits and subsequently assembled, packaged, and tested. It offers die and flip chip bonding, and die sorting products for semiconductors and light emitting diode markets; wire bonding products; encapsulation products; post encapsulation products; singulation equipment; automated systems; and electronics assembly hardware and software. This segment serves customers in the United States and Japan. The company sells its products primarily to manufacturers of semiconductor devices, manufacturers of silicon wafers, and assembly companies. It has a strategic research and development partnership with the Interuniversity MicroElectronics Center. ASM International N.V., formerly known as Advanced Semiconductor Materials International N.V., was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Almere, the Netherlands.
