| Amtech Systems, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, engages in the design, assembly, sale, and installation of capital equipment and related consumables used in the manufacture of wafers, primarily for the solar and semiconductor industries. It operates in two segments, Solar and Semiconductor Equipment, and Polishing Supplies. The Solar and Semiconductor Equipment segment produces and sells horizontal diffusion furnaces, small batch vertical furnaces, and conveyor furnaces. It also provides automation equipment, which includes mass wafer transfer systems, sorters, long-boat transfer systems, load station elevators, buffers and conveyers. In addition, this segment supplies thermal processing systems, including related automation, parts, and services to the semiconductor, solar/photovoltaic, silicon wafer, and microelectromechanical system industries. The Polishing Supplies segment supplies wafer carriers to the manufacturers of silicon wafers. It also manufactures polishing templates, steel carriers, and double-sided polishing and lapping machines to fabricators of optics, quartz, ceramics, and metal parts, as well as manufacturers of medical equipment components and computer disks. In addition, Amtech Systems provides semiconductor manufacturing support services. The company sells its products primarily in the United States, Asia, and northern Europe. It markets its products primarily through sales personnel, as well as through a network of domestic and international independent sales representatives and distributors. Amtech Systems has a three-party research collaboration agreement with Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. Ltd. and The Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands to develop next generation solar cells. The company, formerly known as Quartz Engineering & Materials, Inc., was founded in 1981 and is based in Tempe, Arizona. |
