| Capitol Bancorp Ltd., a bank holding company, provides various banking services to individuals, businesses, and other customers in the United States. The company offers various deposit products, including NOW accounts, checking, savings, money market, individual retirement accounts, and certificates of deposit. It also offers various real estate loans, including commercial real estate loans comprising business use and nonresidential properties, including office, retail, warehouse, and light industrial uses; residential real estate loans, such as single and multi family residential loans; and construction, land development, and other land loans, which includes loans made to finance land development for new or existing structures, vacant land, and agricultural land. Capitol Bancorp also offers commercial and other business-purpose loans consisting of a range of loans for sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and other business enterprises, and also to individuals for commercial, industrial, and professional purposes; consumer loans, including a broad range of installment credit products secured by automobiles and watercraft; and other loans, such as loans to finance agricultural production, obligations of states and political subdivisions in the United States and nonprofit organizations. In addition, the company provides trust services, mortgage origination and servicing, equipment leasing, brokerage and investment advisory services, property and casualty insurance, life insurance and annuity products, and portfolio management services. As of December 31, 2008, it operated 64 subsidiary banks. The company was founded in 1985 and is based in Lansing, Michigan. |
