| Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited provides telecommunications services in Delhi and Mumbai, India. The companys principal services include basic fixed-line access consisting of installation and provision of basic voice telephony services; GSM cellular services; value-added services on GSM, such as call-waiting, call-forwarding, wake-up calls, absent subscriber service and caller identification, friends and family, night talk, VMS call conference, WAP, and voice mail; 3G cellular services; and mobile and fixed-wireless services based on CDMA technology. It also offers narrow-band ISDN services that allow subscribers to send high speed data, make telephone calls with high quality voice transmission, and hold desktop video conference over a single line; data communications services that allow the transmission of data on standard international data protocols and access via dedicated lines or dial-up facilities; Internet access services; point-to-point leased line services for local, domestic long distance, and international connectivity; Telex and intelligent network services, such as calling card service, toll free calling service, premium rate 0900 number service, and tele voting service; and interconnection services with domestic international long distance carriers and with basic and cellular operators. The companys other services comprise Wi-Fi services, IPTV services, and VoIP services. It also has licenses to provide basic and international long distance service, and mobile services in Mauritius; and operates public call offices and coin operated telephone booths. As of March 31, 2009, the company had approximately 41.77 lakh GSM cellular subscribers; 184,000 CDMA mobile connections and 122,000 fixed wireless connections; 25,600 ISDN subscribers; 5.71 lakh broadband customers; 1.43 million Internet subscribers; and 53,000 leased line subscribers. The company was founded in 1986 and is based in New Delhi, India. |
