BUSINESS SUMMARY 
NV Energy, Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric energy in southern Nevada. It operates in three segments: NPC Electric, SPPC Electric, and SPPC Natural Gas. The NPC Electric segment consists of a combination of 33 gas, oil, and coal generating units with a combined capacity of 4,002 megawatts. As of December 31, 2008, it served approximately 827,000 residential, commercial, industrial, wholesale, and public sector customers in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Searchlight, and Laughlin, as well as in adjoining areas, including Nellis Air Force Base and the Department of Energy’s Nevada Test Site in Nye County. The SPPC Electric segment comprises a combination of 35 gas, oil and coal generating units with a combined capacity of 1,577 megawatts. It served approximately 366,000 customers in western, central, and northeastern Nevada, including the cities of Reno, Sparks, Carson City, and Elko, and a portion of eastern California, including the Lake Tahoe area. The SPPC Natural Gas segment provided natural gas services to approximately 149,000 customers in Reno/Sparks area, Nevada. As of the above date, it owned and operated 1,964 miles of three-inch equivalent natural gas distribution piping. NV Energy serves various industries, including gaming/recreation, mining, warehousing/manufacturing, offices, health care, education, military bases, and other governmental entities. The company was formerly known as Sierra Pacific Resources and changed its name to NV Energy, Inc. NV Energy was founded in 1906 and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
