| Sun American Bancorp operates as the holding company for Sun American Bank, which provides various commercial banking products and services to small to medium sized businesses, individual investors, and consumers in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Martin Counties of Florida. The companys loan product portfolio comprises mortgage loans, including commercial, industrial, and residential loans secured by real estate; commercial loans consisting of loans for working capital, purchases of machinery, and business expansion; and consumer loans, such as direct auto, home equity, home improvement, residential mortgage loans, and personal loans. It also offers various services, including a merchant credit card program, automated teller machines, safe deposit boxes, direct deposit, on-line banking, and cash management services. As of December 31, 2008, Sun American Bancorp operated five branches in MiamiDade County, two branches in Broward County, six branches in Palm Beach County, and one branch in Martin County. The company was formerly known as PanAmerican Bancorp and changed its name to Sun American Bancorp in January 2006.
