| Socket Mobile, Inc. produces mobile computing hardware systems for business and medical mobility markets. It offers mobile handheld computer products, which are designed for business mobility applications. The company also provides mobile peripheral products, such as data collection, which enables the electronic collection of data from barcodes, radio frequency identification tags, or magnetic stripes; and connectivity products, a connection device that is plugged into standard expansion slots in handheld computers, tablet computers, ultra mobile personal computers, and notebook computers that use Windows Mobile, Windows XP/Vista, or Windows Tablet operating systems. In addition, its mobile peripheral products also include serial interface products, which enable the connection of a mobile computer to electronic devices either as a plug-in card connecting over cables, or wirelessly over a Bluetooth network. Further, the company provides bluetooth and wireless LAN modules, and plug-in cards used primarily by OEMs of industrial grade handheld computers and other devices to build wireless connection functions into their products using the Bluetooth and Wireless LAN standards for wireless connectivity. It sells its products through distributors and resellers in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific. Socket Mobile, Inc. was formerly known as Socket Communications, Inc. and changed its name to Socket Mobile, Inc. in April 2008. The company was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Newark, California. |
